How many people do you know that are now divorced? I believe that before any couple even thinks about getting into a serious relationship or perhaps even marriage, they should first realize the consequences they may suffer in their future lives. What marriage means to me is the idea of a union between individuals who commit to one another with the expectation of a stable and lasting intimate relationship. It begins with a ceremony known as a wedding, which formally unites the marriage partners. This union may seem somewhat easy to some, but hard to others. Hard for those that want to have a lifelong relationship; comparatively easy for those who just want to be with someone for the time being. Societies in which individuals choose their own partners, young people typically date prior to marriage. Dating is the process of spending time with probable partners to become acquainted. Dates may take place in groups or between just two individuals. When dating becomes more serious it may be referred to as engagement. Engagement implies a deeper level of commitment than dating does. During engagement the individuals specifically consider marriage, rather than merely enjoying one another's company for the time being.
As stated in the poem, "Balances", by Nikki Giovanni,.
we used to talk all night.
and do things alone together.

This example from the poem shows a couple that did so much together and loved every moment of it. Yet, they lost it all after realizing what it really meant to be together .
