Both opinions, however, can be conveyed in one line from King's speech, "It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the Negro."(195). By this it is said aloud .

Throughout the periods of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil Rights movements African American leaders have used one thing mare than any other, logos, the logic of everyone they try to convince. Without getting into someone's head with logical statements there is no way to be sure that anyone will buy into anything that is said. In that very aspect King is amazing, he plays to the people for their support and pleads for the power they possess as a whole. Such an example of his genius is when he preaches to the crowd of the falsehood put upon the .

Comparatively, Douglass is no where near as effective at playing on people's logic. A reason for this might be that there are so many references to religion such as, "How can we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?"(383). However, quite possibly, another weakness compared to King is the substantial sarcasm Douglass places upon the crowd, appalling them such as "I do not hesitate to declare . . . this nation never looked blacker to me . . ." (383). All in all it is known historically that King is a much more persuasive speaker and writer, such is documented in the Nobel Prize he was awarded for this very speech.
