Evolution

Everyone has their own opinion of what evolution means to them. I am going to describe what the term means to me and how I use it. Being a Christian, I was taught evolution is a bad thing, and I shouldn't believe in it. I trust God created the Heavens and the Earth; nobody is going to persuade me different. Just because I believe this, doesn't mean the word evolution doesn't exist. .
Charles Darwin, is the known creator of the "Theory of Evolution", however, that is not what he liked to call his theory. He preferred to call it "descent with modification". The reason he did this was, because in old Victorian England, evolution already had several meanings, not describing or supporting his theory.
The American Heritage Dictionary now describes evolution as "a gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form". I chose this word because it can be viewed from so many perspectives. Evolution is one of those words everyone associates with Darwinism, just as tissue is associated with Kleenex.
Anyone with any elementary schooling should know what evolution means, because it is taught in Science. Some schools are turning away from teaching it though. Even if they do not believe in it, they need to inform the children about what it is. Teachers and Scientists use this word quite frequently. A group you will not find using the word in a positive way is the Christians. They believe in Creation. To them, this is a forbidden word.
To me, hearing the word evolution immediately puts a picture of an ape turning into a man into my head. Another phrase that goes hand in hand with evolution is "Big Bang". What people forget/don't know is that Darwin never even liked the word. .
Believing in my faith, I do not think there are any positive results from using this term. Evolution will always be the wrong thing. However, atheists believe truly in the "big bang", so evolution is the supporting word.
