From the story of The Management of Grief we come to understand that different people manage grief in different ways. The mentally strong people like Mrs. Bhave cope up with hardships better than others. Some may fall ill due to major grief and some may even go to extent of committing suicide. Mrs. Bhave's way of overcoming her grief is remarkably different compared to most people. I have seen people struggle form grief in real life and in Medias. In that respect Mrs. Bhave's way of overcoming her grief was better than others. Comparing Mrs. Bhave to these people; she stands apart in her ability to manage her grief.
In the story of The Management of Grief, Mrs. Bhave deals with her grief quite differently. In the beginning, as everyone else Mrs. Bhave is blue and she is not able to accept the reality of her family's death. For example, she goes to Ireland to find their body and bring them back to India for an appropriate funeral; however, she brings a suitcase of dry clothes for her sons believing her sons are still alive. Only we, the readers are aware of this, everyone else looks at her as a brave, strong and accepting woman. She believes that they are with her even though she knows they are gone. She thinks that would make her be strong and overcome her mournful days.
A while ago, I watched an Indian movie which has a background similar to that of the story. The movie takes place in India in a place called Madras. Education in India is priceless; even if one member of the family fails to have high education, the whole family loses respect. In this movie a teenager in the age of nine-teen has completed the final examination. Unlike Canada, results of final examination are printed only in newspapers; when this student went through the newspaper her name wasn't in the list that had a record of all students who passed the examination. The teenager committed suicide not able to bear the grief of the failure in the final exam.
