Architecture

The term contemporary (modern) does not denote any one particular architectural style. Most modern homes borrow some distinctive features from more traditional structures, while others appear almost independent of past designs.
It makes little difference in society just what constitutes contemporary styling. The most important job for the architect is to design homes that satisfy the customers - homes they may live in with pride and joy. In today's society, individual tastes vary to the extent that many people desire a house that is distinctly different from other houses. One owner may enjoy the warmth of natural wood; another owner may like the solid structural design of a brick home.
The rapid development of new construction materials and methods of fabrication has made it possible to design homes that require a minimum of maintenance, make extensive use of glass, or place the emphasis on exposed structural members. The multitude of individual preferences, materials, and structural techniques predicts a variety of unique expressions for architectural designing.
Frank Lloyd Wright was an "American architect, considered one of the greatest figures of the 20th-century architecture" (Encarta Online Encyclopedia). Wright was born in 1867 and worked 92 years before he died two months before his 92nd birthday. He was in his early teens when he displayed a knack for drawing, which led him to move to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked as an assistant at an architectural firm when he was 21 years old.

Wright was guided by principles that he termed organic architecture in his work. He wanted all of his building to relate harmoniously to their natural surroundings. A dynamic structure with open, flowing interior spaces was composed of geometric shapes. He used a grid of squares, diamonds, hexagons, and other geometric shapes to make up a free flowing floor plan. "Owners of Wright homes consider a legacy; irresistible offers for his works endanger legacy" (The New York Times).
