If you think of who the abortion is benefiting most of the time it's the pregnant woman, I would consider this an act of selfishness although that would strongly depend on her reasoning I could almost create a hierarchy of reasoning (the top being the most understandable):.
1. Continuing with the pregnancy would have severe effects on her physical or mental well being.
2. Pregnant by Incest that could give the child genetic defects .
3. She was forced to have sexual intercourse against her will (raped) and became pregnant as a result .
4. A test shows that the foetus is carrying a serious inherited disease or serious birth defect .
5. She feels she is too young to take care of a baby in a responsible manner.
6. Her Restricted financial circumstances.
7. She feels that she would not be able to cope or does not want an disabled baby i.e. down syndrome .
8. To avoid the high probability of single parenthood.
9. Simply not yet ready for parenthood .
Figure 1.
In figure 1.0 I have demonstrated how you could put a status on the grounds a woman might choose to have an abortion in concern to her self, of course this isn't always the case. .
In the incidence of her becoming pregnant as a consequence of rape most would accept the woman's choice to have an abortion and not consider it to be a wrongful decision, nonetheless the are still criticisms that could be put to her decision like if one evil has occurred (this case rape) should another occur (having the abortion) to resolve the problem, in other words Do two wrongs make a right? In my opinion this is a very rigid argument mainly because there isn't any consideration for the woman's psychological state and also for that of the unborn child in the future. .
Each one of these reasoning's could be argued against, in the case that if she continues with the pregnancy her life may be at risk some might call this hypocrisy as it clearly puts more of an importance of saving the life of the mother not the unborn baby but an example that may validate this reasoning could be this: .
