my career

I want to become a secondary history teacher. When someone becomes a teacher there are many parts to their everyday job. First the duties would depend on what subject the person is going to teach. A secondary history teacher's duties would involve mainly teaching and disciplining children. Secondary teachers help students to look more deeply into subjects that were introduced in elementary school. They also expose their students to more information about the world. There are many types of history classes I could teach. For example, plain History, American History, American Problems, World Geology, and 20th Century History are just some examples. I would like to teach 20th Century History because this class is mainly based on all of the wars that have happened like the Civil War, The Revolutionary War, World War I and World War II. As a teacher my job will also involve planning what I will do for lessons and assigning them, preparing and giving tests, grading tests and papers, listening to oral presentations, evaluating and observing students, and maintaining classroom discipline. In addition to having their own classes, teachers are often asked to cover study halls and supervise extracurricular activities. Being a Secondary teacher I will also help students to choose courses, colleges and careers. I will also have to provide my students with classroom presentations, individual instruction and enough information to further their education.
             Working Conditions.
Teachers work a range of different hours after school, it all depends on the person. On an average, teachers work more than forty hours a week. Most teachers work a ten month year and have a two month summer vacation. There is also the option of finding a job at a school that attends year round. Personally I want to work at a school that goes to school ten months then has two months off. Teachers mainly work in classrooms and are sometimes isolated from the other staff.
