From the beginning, Romeo acts without thinking of the consequences. For example, when a Capulet servant asks for a list of invited people for a party to be read out, Romeo reads it out, but decides to go to the party himself; knowing Capulet is his enemy. Secondly, Romeo kills Tybalt out of rage, even though he knows it makes things all the worse for his current situation with Tybalt's cousin, Juliet. After Romeo kills Tybalt, he regrets his mistake by saying, "O, I am fortune's fool!". Lastly, if Romeo had just taken some time to say prayers or thought about what he was doing before he resorted to suicide, he could have been in the tomb in time for the Friar to arrive and explain everything.
Romeo's character is an interesting one. He appears to have many positive qualities such as his enthusiasm and passion, but also many negatives ones which eventually lead to his downfall. Romeo is first introduced to us as a sad, melancholic, apathetic youth. "From love's weak childish bow she lives unharmed. She will not stay the siege of loving terms" This shows his reason for sadness is Rosaline, his love will not return his affections . At first he is not daring, it is his friends Mercutio and Benvolio who suggest he arrive uninvited at the Capulet party to see Rosaline. This is where he meets Juliet and also where his mood changes to a happier one. Romeo is also quite virtuous. For example, Lord Capulet when he calls him, "a virtuous and well-governed youth" and refuses to let Tybalt bother him, this shows that even the Capulet family likes Romeo who should be their enemy. Everyone in the play likes Romeo with only one exception, Tybalt! Friar Lawrence loves Romeo so much that he'll do almost anything to secure his happiness. Mercutio and Benvolio both want to get Romeo's attention. Even the Nurse thinks he's honest, courteous, kind, and handsome. As well as being popular he is very passionate, "turn back, dull earth, and find thy centre out" he is saying here that he must turn back and find the centre of his universe, which is Juliet.
