Of Mice And Men

Lennie always says, "But not us! An" why? Because. because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that's why." George will most defiantly miss this special bond. The greatest negative effect that George is going to experience is loneliness and a lack of companionship. George and Lennie were constantly striving to ov!.
ercome essential human loneliness. Lennie was there to help George to avoid the loneliness which is "no fun" and could cause him to "get mean" like the other ranch hands. Though they have nothing else they have the warm camaraderie of two good friends. As Lennie, in a cry of triumph says, "We got each other, that's what, that gives a hoot in hell about us." .
Another way that Steinbeck states that George needs Lennie is whenever George is in the bunkhouse without Lennie, he deals himself a solitaire hand. George is pretty much a loner without Lennie. So Lennie is right when he says that they got each other. The companionship will be greatly missed by George. He had said that he and Lennie had avoided becoming like Carlson, selfish and heartless, or Curly, aggressive and brutish, simply because they were companions. Now, due to a lack of companionship, George will most likely become just like the others. Not only is and will George be negatively affected by Lennie's death, the direction of his life will also be greatly affected. .
In his new life, George does not have to watch out for Lennie anymore, but without him, George's life is definitely on a different track than is once was with Lennie. George had a vision-a vision that he shared with Lennie. Their dream was to own a small farm, but Lennie's death brought on a new kind of entrapment. Lennie constantly reminded George of the vision of the farm and hounded George to repeat it. Lennie's enthusiasm kept the vision fresh and alive. At first when Lennie reminded George of the farm he seemed annoyed with the idea, then got right into it and was as excited as Lennie was.
