Ever since my first rave experience I have never truly understood raves. I am interested in searching and learning more about rave culture.
Research on rave culture is difficult because it is a very current issue. Therefore, library books and encyclopedias could not help me much. I started my research on databases because they contain primarily magazine articles. Since raves has recently become more popular I was successful in finding a variety of articles. I found articles from major magazines such as Entertainment Weekly, U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, Time, Maclean's, Rolling Stone, Newsday, and The University Wire. After finding these articles on databases, I realized how lucky I am to have access to them so easily. I would never be able to find information as resent and informative form any other source. I took portions of the articles that I believed to be important and pasted the portions to electronic note cards. The note cards helped to organize my information and saved valuable research time that I would have used to take notes my hand. After I finished searching the databases I moved on to the web. .
The web was more difficult because most information was either irrelevant or not accurate. The Internet frustrated me so after a couple of hours I terminated my Internet search and that the articles found on the databases where as thorough as I was going to get. Even though I knew I was not going to find many books on rave culture I still went to the library to check out some general books on music. These books helped give me a better understanding of music history and the development of techno music. .
Over the last 10-15 years, a new trend of parties has been evolving. These gatherings are known in the media as raves, and are often simply called parties by those attending them. A rave is an all night event where usually young people gather in a social atmosphere while listening to hypnotic dance music.
