Greek Foods


            The staple foods of our diet now are olives, bread and wine.
             Wine is made from grapes that are squashed and then fermented until they have alcoholic .
             content. .
             Crusty breadrolls, goat cheese and olives are the main food supply at most meals. .
             And since Greece is surrounded by water, we have a variety of fish to eat, such as .
             mackerel and tuna. We also eat octopus, squid, and shellfish. Fish are flavored with bay .
             leaves, rosemary and thyme. Other meat is only ever eaten at sacrificial times like religious .
             festivals. .
             For vegetables, we eat onions, peas, lentils, cabbage and greens. We don't have sugar, so we satisfy our sweet tooth with fresh fruit, such as figs, dates and pomegranates and apples. As a treat we make small cakes sweetened with honey.
             It is very hard to import any other food in bulk so only the aristocrats are able to have any kind of variety.
