A Different Kind of Drug War

Anti-depressants are drugs that boost the brain chemical serotonin by blocking its re-absorption into cells that send it out as a signal transmitter. Sounds acceptable, right? Wrong. Many people experience serious adverse reactions to these drugs. This makes perfect sense considering the drug is altering the chemicals in your brain.
Users of anti-depressants may have side effects that include confusion, extreme agitation advancing to delirium or coma. On top of that, they may impair a persons judgment, thinking or motor skills. Dizziness and lightheadedness have also been reported. Yet no one knows about any of this. The doctors surely don't speak about it, and neither do the labels on the bottles! This is not even the beginning of the low quality of these drugs. .
There are so many side effects that could be experienced; it would blow your mind. Some of them include nausea, nervousness, insomnia, diarrhea, headache, rash, sweating, decreased appetite, weight loss or gain, sexual dysfunction, memory lapses, apathy, worrisome, disfiguring facial tics, mouth twitching, tongue darting, becoming highly anxious, violence, and suicide. Just to name a few. Betty is one of many patients that had a not so pleasant experience with one of the drugs.
Betty is a victim of depression. She has been through many different types of therapy, and finally decided to take an anti-depressant. The drug she was prescribed with was Prozac, and she soon found out it wasn't for her. Shortly after she started taking the pill, she noticed she was constantly drowsy. Her unusual sleepiness began to take over her life. "If I was out to lunch I had to come home by one o"clock so I could sleep until six." If she wasn't able to do that she would be too tired to drive home, so someone would have to take her. After being awake for two hours she would already have to go back to bed, sleeping for another eleven hours. Also sever upper back pain was frustrating her.
