Life

Luke didn't like the idea of transferring schools at all. In fact in the novel he say's "It didn't sound like fun. My friends were in Black Oak." Luke was a very big dreamer. Luke worried more about playing baseball and keeping secrets then getting a good education. Luke's father didn't get past the third grade and they had to make Ricky graduate from high school. The book doesn't even state how far his grandparents got education wise. I think the Chandlers would have managed their money much better if they had a good education. .
The Chandlers were a family of farmers who were struggling to break even. The Chandlers had many debts to pay off. Luke was the youngest in the family and knew they were in debt. He even mentioned it himself in the story when he said, "But, like most farmers, Pappy and my father carried debt from the previous year (15)." They owed a lot of money to many different people. I think if they all would have went to school and learned more they would be in a much better position then they were in at that time. If they had a good education they probably would have been on top rather then struggling. I know their family was not as poor as others because back then the military did look out a little. They wouldn't even have the military help in today's society without an education. Money plays a very big role in business in today's society even in their society. The Chandlers spent a lot of time thinking on how to break even or become successful but they never did.
             Ivory 3.
The Chandlers had a very poor choice of land so every year their crops got damaged. The Chandlers farmland was damaged every year by rain so they never could get enough goods to sell and break even. I don't an educated family would make that mistake. I guess if first you don't succeed you must try again. I guess Luke's grandparents really liked the house they were staying, but I think anyone wise would have known to move away from that bad land a long time ago.
