School...a New Culture

The first day of school at Crafton Hills College this fall was a completely new experience of a culture that was not known to me. Being only sixteen and also using home school for the past two years, attending school for what seemed like the first time was a bit scary. When I went to my first class I was really quiet and nervous and didn't really talk to anyone. After a few minutes I began to relax when I realized that in-fact everyone else was here for the same reason, to learn. When the teacher came in he introduced himself and explained what the class was about in a real friendly manner. I wasn't used to the teacher being so friendly and almost treating you like an equal, after all I had only gone to school through junior high, where they treat you like a baby. As the class went on I began to open up more and more until I couldn't resist and actually asked a question! I was so proud of my-self for speaking up on my first day! I also found that people are so much friendlier at college. I actually made some friends and by the time the day was over, and I felt completely comfortable and really enjoyed going to school. Attending school for the first time in a long time was an experience in a culture that I wasn't used to. At first it was a challenge, but thanks to accepting people and teachers, it's a breeze learning in a different environment.
