Sports

There are many things in this world that have a lot of things in common. Sports and corporate america are not one of the two things that come to mind. How could two things that seem completely different have so much in common. If compared, like Loy did, corporate America and sports follow the same organizational structure. This structure is a seven layer structure that is a very important foundation that must be followed to achieve success in both worlds or there would be nothing but chaos.
At the top of the structure is the division of labor. The division of labor is the separation of jobs or tasks to make everyone's job easier. Instead of having people trying to do different things, everyone is assigned one job and that is what they do. In a business environment you have a marketing department. Their job is to market, get the public's attention, they are not responsible for keeping up with accounts payable and payroll, that is accountings job. In sports you have the same kind of roles. Like in football, you have your offensive line doing the blocking and the quarterback executing the plays. You do not want these roles reversed because there would be complete chaos creating failure in everything the team did. As the examples prove the division of labor is a very important factor contributing to the success of both the business organization and the sports organization. The divison of labor is also important in the fact that problems can be found out quickly and eliminated at the source. If there was no division of labor then no one would know who caused the problem or where the problem was originated.
The specialization of skills is very important to the success of an organization.
The next layer, which is heirarchial structure or ranks, almost goes hand in hand with the previous. At the top of every organizational structure is a leader of some kind. In a business environment you have your CEO or president, which is the leader of the organization, then you have your vice president, and then you have your departments, with their department heads.
