These tests have proven to be of great benefit in; identifying students in need of special attention in school, in diagnosing cognitive difficulties, and in helping people make optimal educational and vocational choices. However, a significant correlation between test scores and occupational status remains, even when education and family background have been statistically controlled. It is widely agreed that standardized tests do not sample all forms of intelligence. Obvious examples include that of creativity, wisdom, practical sense, and social sensitivity, among other elements. .
             Despite the importance of these abilities, very little is known about them, how they develop, what factors influence their development, and how they are related to more traditional measures. Although I.Q. tests have been given for many decades, the steady rise in scores was not apparent because the tests are regularly adjusted, or reformed, so that half the people score below 100 and half score above, regardless of how many questions are answered correctly. The IQ test most frequently used in the United States was devised by psychologist David Wechsler and is known as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-III, or, more commonly known as, the WAIS-III. There is also a children's version, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children "III, or WISC-III. Both the WAIS-III and the WISC-III have two major parts: verbal and a performance (or nonverbal) scale. (Feldman, 231). .
