The member who would go forth to gather others and lead them down the path to denial as well. S/He has left behind the ultimate and found the idolatrous to be his/her ultimate concern. So this member is no longer welcome in this community for the good of the community. S/He no longer has the faith that the rest of the community holds to find the ultimate so s/he no longer has a place.
The place for the Church holds their own expression just as should the liturgies and doctrines. This brings out the expression in the community and again, makes it their own. Given the chance to understand, these signs of community must not take over as the ultimate concern but should help the people to have a better understanding of the ultimate. These expressions should help to guide to or visualize the greatness of the ultimate not replace it. An example would be the Catholic symbol of the crucifix. Let us not take Jesus the Christ dying on the cross as the ultimate but let it remind us of the ultimate sacrifice that God the Father gave to us in love. To show us that he has faith in us he gave us a symbol of his love for us, his son. .
God the Father showed his people an action of faith. Without actions you can not show faith. Without the "doing" we can not call ourselves a community. Symbols of love and faith are how we express the ultimate. The devotion is not able to be expressed .
in words; it needs symbols to help the community understand. The active symbol is the ritual - we go to Mass (we use concrete symbols such as fire, water, wine, oil, bread, incense, and robes,) recite certain prayers, follow the sacraments and so forth. The intuitive actions are the mythical. We have faith in the stories of the bible and in the traditions of the Church because the community has done it this way and it was set for us from back to the apostles. We do not take them literally, that would make the myths and us absurd, but we use them for insight and for believing within the community.
