Fleur was pregnant and she went to drain the tub which caused her child to come early and put both her and her child's life in jeopardy to dieing. Fleur ends up losing the child and almost loses her other because of Pauline not doing anything. And after that Fleur still let Pauline into her home and life.
             Nanapush; an older male Indian, which Fleur called her uncle was always there for Fleur. He was the one who find Fleur with her dead family and cared for her until she was better. That was what made the relationship and bend that they had even more powerful and strong. Fleur could come to Nanapush's cabin anything and they would talk or just play cards. When Fleur was a child she would go to Nanapush, Nanapush would have candy for her to eat. Even after they left the reservation Nanapush was there for Fleur by taking care of Fleur's daughter, Lulu, with his wife, Margaret. The candy and the caring for Fleur while she was sick show a loving caring relationship that the two had. Even when Nanapush saw that Fleur took it hard went she lost her child he put a spell together to make her better. This action was action that a father would do. Another thing that proves that it goes both ways is at the end Fleur cut all the trees near her home but they were still standing. Fleur made sure that Nanapush was standing in a safe place as the trees fell down around her. .
             Margaret is a strong willed woman who cares a lot about her sons. So in the beginning it was a surprise that Margaret did not want Fleur to be her daughter-in-law because she had a simple minded girl that she could boss around. Margaret went to Fleur because Fleur was having trouble giving birth. In the time after Margaret helped with the birth and care after birth of Fleur and her daughter they build a relationship. Margaret spends a lot of time at Fleur's cabin. Margaret helped get food in the cabin and when the food was low went without so that Fleur, Eli, Lulu, and Nanapush could eat.
