Before I came to Spelman I knew that I wanted to work with children. I am still not sure what type of profession that deals with children that I want to go into, so I chose a major that his very universal in working with children. I chose to major in education because I believe this major will help me to gain knowledge essential to my future career, whatever that may be. I have also decided to minor in child development, so that I can enhance my children skills before entering the work force. Through this project, I have examined various careers associated with education degree accented by a child development minor. With this degree, one could be an Assistant director of Admissions, teacher or a guidance counselor. All of these careers require detailed knowledge of the educational field as well as advanced computer literacy. In this paper, I will further examine the computer skills needed for three of these careers: Assistant director of Admissions, teacher or a guidance counselor. Each one of these three careers that can be obtained with a teaching degree, all utilize computers quite frequently. The reality is that computers and technology dominate our world in this day and age. Therefore, using computers for one’s job is basically inevitable. Although this class seems to be a burden at times, I am glad that I am learning all about computers now so that I will be able to function in the workforce. As shown, computer use has extended way beyond the basic word processing that had characterized previous generations. Now, knowledge of things like the Internet, email, databases and spreadsheets, are indeed, essential; any person that does not possess these skills will be left behind. e to Kai Lopes , who is in this position at Noble& Greenough School. She told me that in her position, they require her to learn their own Internet system, which is called Nobles Net, which is used only at that particular school. She also is required to learn how to use their file server, to input data information. Mrs. Lopes also told me that it is also imperative that she is well organized in her daily duties. This is another place in which computers are implemented. With new technology and the advancement of palm-based computers, many people, keep their schedules on their desktop computers and synchronize them to their palm-based computers, which allows them to keep up with their schedules.
