Marathon

The New York Road Runners Club opened a marathon Thanksgiving Day on November 22 called Turkey Trot held in Prospect Park. Unfortunately I couldn't make it to registration which was held in an elementary school a mile away from Prospect Park. By the time I got to Prospect Park it was almost 9am and the race was about to begin. The New York Road Runners event coordinators told me to just run it because it was only a "friendly race" and said when I"m done maybe they can help me out by giving me a Turkey Trot shirt or something. .
It was a beautiful warm and sunny morning which was perfect for a marathon. The marathon was full of runners. Definitely in the hundred range. At 9am I joined the crowd at the start line and ran with them. Everybody was full of energy and prepared for this 5 mile run. They had jogging gears, shorts, tank tops, head bands and anything you can image. I was prepared myself with an athletic outfit of sweatpants, t-shirt and sneakers. As we ran to about a mile down, the crow began to separate more instead of running as a big pack. Some went further and some fell back. I kept my pace at a steady normal jog. I wasn't trying to race anybody or anything like that. .
This was a great event for me. It was my first time at a marathon and also my first time in Prospect Park. I never knew how big the park was. Prospect Park looks very similar to Central Park in Manhattan. The marathon runners were great people. They .
were friendly and bright. All age rangers ran the marathon. From professional runners to children to elderly. I ran along with a few people who kept the same pace as me. They were very nice people. I actually had a few chats with them while running. .
I ended my race at the finish line in 1 hour and 7 minutes. Right above the finish line was where the time clock was. I heard the first place winner won at around 27 minutes. I was pretty exhausted but all and all it was a great run.
