Given the Theory of Aesthetic Hedonism, Grave of the Fireflies will not be considered as art. Hedonism for one is a belief that merely sets aside negative emotions. A hedonist subscribes to a life of least pain; sorrow for example will bring about pain. Grave of the Fireflies has such nature that is compelling and riveting, yet completely heartbreaking. Although, some might contest and have a valid reason for it. The film, in this principle gives a certain feeling of pleasure and satisfaction. "2014's iteration of "Robocop" is a kinder, gentler version of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 sci-fi orgy of violence" (James Berardinelli;Reelviews). That is the shortest and simplest way to sum up all the film's faults, but I will attempt to elaborate on this and give my views on the film after a viewing, and compare it to the 1987 original in terms of quality. In the year 2028, technology has become extremely advanced and with it so has society. As a result of this a world where humans and robots coexist is no longer a pipedream, in fact, Super-Company Omnicorp has turned the very science of Robotic...

During the very beginning of the film, the shot sequences took place after a fight between Bond and Jaws. Bicycles Thieves (1948) represents one of the most important films of Italian neorealism. Through a simple story (a man with his son searches his stolen bicycle, extremely important for his survival) the film became a parable about the difficulties and the problems which afflicted Italy during the post-war period. In this essay I will analyse all the characteristics that make Bicycles Thieves a realistic film, and all the non-realistic elements that, in some ways, determine its realism as well. Initially, it is important to make a short introduction about Italian neorealism and its aspects. Th...

The 1997 film Amistad was directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Colin Wilson, Debbie Allen, and Steven Spielberg through DreamWorks SKG. The film was based off the mutiny aboard a Cuban slave ship, La Amistad, sailing towards America during 1839. Steven Spielberg does a satisfactory job balancing out historical accuracy and Hollywood cliches. The film begins with the main character Cinque, the tribal leader of the Mende, breaking free from his chains and setting free some of the other slaves on the ship, La Amistad. They begin to rebel against their captors, killing all except two Spani...
