While at the store be sure to purchase the tools you need, if they"re not already available. Most cars require being some what off the ground so you can get under it. To raise the car one should use a car jack, trucks and SUV sometimes don't need to be raised due to their higher styles. Jack stands are needed for safety precautions. An oil pan is desirable to catch and store used oil. Wrenches are needed to remove the oil plug. Cars have different size plugs so refer to the manual to get the size, or use the guess and check method. Oil filters have special wrenches or can be loosened with one's hand. A funnel is also recommended to make the job significantly easier. Now that the tools are gathered your ready to get started. .
             First, you should find a proper area to work on the car. Garages are preferable but driveways and parking lots are fine areas too. If possible it would be best to allow the cars engine to cool before starting, so you don't get burned. Next you need to jack up the car. SUV's and other high riding vehicles can skip this if the under side of the car is accessible.
