My Dream for a Better America

In a perfect country, would anything be wasted? Would surplus food simply be thrown away? Would we leave lights on or purchase a gas-guzzling means of transportation such as a Hummer or a Sport Utility Vehicle just because we can? In an impeccable country, no. But alas in these our own United States of America, yes.
If you don't understand what I mean yet, just look at the facts. It would take only one year's country-wide refuse to completely fill a twenty four lane highway, one foot deep, stretching all the way from Boston, Massachusetts to Los Angeles, California. Even here in Cincinnati, Ohio we are being affected by this atrocious dilemma. Little more than a decade ago, the site of today's Rumpke Mountain, currently the highest point in Butler County, was a profound valley.
Albeit we are influenced by this trash problem, there are other ways we damage our environment. The problem of overused water or electricity is almost as appalling as the trash predicament. In fact if you refrain from letting the water run while you brush your teeth, you can save more or less four gallons of water. Electricity is a considerable problem as well. Power plants need to burn fossil fuels in order to create energy. Leaving unnecessary lights or appliances on is almost directly wasting fossil fuels. Eventually the fossil fuels will dwindle into short supply. After that we will have to find makeshift opportunities for energy. .
These issues may seem overwhelming now, but if we can all contribute to the cause it is a possibility that we could overcome this quandary of refuse. It is, in reality, rather simple to conserve. Recycling is perhaps the prime example of conservation. You could use both sides of a sheet of paper or just reuse scrap paper. For motorists there is an excessive amount of ways to be of assistance. When you are stuck in heavy traffic for extended periods of time, shut off your car to cut down on gas emissions.
