The Benefits of Driving a Truck

I've been a truck enthusiast my entire life. I love everything about trucks and all the perks that come with them; but there are a few things that I do not like about them. I found the solution to these problems: diesel engine powered trucks. If I were asked to pick my favorite truck a year ago, I probably would have said a 2013 GMC Sierra 1500. That is not the case anymore. During the past year, I looked for a used truck to buy. During that year looking, I had to have looked at hundreds of truck ads. Through looking at all of those truck ads, I had a change of heart. I became a diesel truck enthusiast. Diesel trucks are a thing of the future, and are making a fast uprising. I believe everyone should drive a diesel engine powered vehicle due to its great gas mileage, long life expectancy, and environmental benefits.
After my yearlong search for a truck, I finally found one. I bought a 2003 GMC Sierra 4x4 extended cab truck with a 5.3-liter gasoline engine. One the best of days, I'd be lucky to get 13.5 miles per gallon combined city and highway driving. Now lets take my exact same truck, but add the 6.6-liter Duramax (diesel) engine it came with that year. My truck would now get around 20 miles per gallon just from the fact that it was a diesel engine. I'll use a newer example as well. Chevrolet makes a sedan called the Cruze, which comes with either a gasoline engine or a diesel engine. Chevrolet reports the 2014 Cruze gasoline engine to get 38 miles per gallon, but the diesel engine gets 46 miles per gallon. The reason for this is because gasoline engines require spark plugs to ignite the fuel while diesel engines use pure pressure to ignite the fuel. This means less fuel is used causing better gas mileage. This isn't the only benefit though. Diesel engines last a whole lot longer than gasoline engines.
When I was younger, I used to wonder why farmers keep those old rusty tractors I always saw when you drove past farms.
