Paying College Athletes

All of these college players are the reason why the NCAA makes so much money and they don't see a cent in their time there. Collegiate sports has been regarded as amateur ever since the NCAA program came to be. This is one of the main reasons why people don't believe college athletes should get paid. With collegiate sports attendees at all time highs this is no longer the case. These players deserve their pay as they do a lot for the university as a whole. On the other hand these players coaches are making millions, such as John Calipari Head Coach of the Kentucky Wildcats Men's basketball team who made 5.5 million dollars last season. The NCAA should come up with a payment system for these players whether it's a monthly/yearly payment plan these players deserve a salary. College players have many responsibilities outside of sports such as their all important education. It is big task to try and juggle both education and sports especially when so much of their time goes into the sports side of this; most would argue its equivalent to a full time job. .
A popular argument against why collegiate players should not be paid is that it is considered an amateur sport. Through the years college sports have been about the love of the game, fueled with adrenaline filled moments. At least this was the case until it became all about business. The purity of the sport has gone down quite a lot due to this and therefore making the idea that college sports are "amateur" completely false. To reinforce this idea since the NCAA's main focus is the amount of money that it brings in and not the level of competition once again this proves NCAA sports should not be considered amateur sports. Once people can realize or just simply admit to themselves that collegiate sports are on par with pro sports then college athletes are in great position to possibly be paid.
College athletes are essential to the amount of profit a university brings in.
