" If the United States didn't have immigrants working in restaurants with a low wage salary, restaurant owners would eventually go bankrupt or may not exist as many Americans expect their salaries to be paid at a high rate. In addition, if it weren't for illegal immigrants to work in the back of kitchens of restaurants, Americans wouldn't have a nice gourmet meal sitting in front of them.
If local Americans were to work in the back of kitchens, they are expected to be paid at a minimum wage of $9 or more an hour, whereas an illegal immigrant will work for $3-$4 an hour. As Kendall mentioned in her essay of "Framing Class," "People who watch television have exaggerated views of how wealthy most Americans are" (333). This is because an average American likes to be seen 'clean' and 'spotless' since they want to keep their reputation up as they think that they are in a "upper class" country as Kendall mentioned (333). Besides, Americans won't be able to earn a living working in the back of kitchens by cleaning dishes all day long. These immigrants who work in the kitchens of restaurants do not care how much they make owing to the fact that they know that they are not as skilled and they won't be able to make as much as an average American makes. Although Americans think illegal immigrants come to the United States so that they can displace them, many of these Americans do not know that they work under stressful and difficult conditions to make a better life for their families.
If the United States didn't have these immigrants working in the agriculture industries, crops would eventually die as they do not have enough employed staff working. It is difficult for immigrants to work in the agriculture industry in their native country as fertilizers and machinery to cut crops are expensive to maintain whereas they can do the same exact job in the United States and get paid.
