Summary of Michael Kimmel's Guyland

So many girls my age, younger and even older than me are constantly wondering why guys are always thinking of themselves, being disrespectful, the list could go on and on, but after reading "Guyland", it made it very clear to me just why guys are the way they are. Now I know that I can only speak for myself and some other girls or guys may feel different about why guys act the way they do. I only truly feel that Guyland exists because of going through experiences through my adolescent years. Every girl at some point starts to get that feeling of wanting love and compassion from a guy. For myself after having a couple of boyfriends, I began to realize that most guys are the same. When I say "the same" I mean they only really have one thing on their minds and that would be sex. They really only tend to think about themselves and how they can get laid again. They hang out with their friends all the time, play video games and look for their next girl. Most guys will continue to be stuck in this phase of life until they either find that one special girl they want to spend their lives with or they realize themselves that it is time for them to start growing up and make a life for themselves. .
Guys seem to be scared to grow up and face the fact that they will not be kids forever, and they need to transform into that adulthood with responsibilities. From my experiences throughout the years, I have noticed that many guys don't necessarily want to grow up because they are afraid of what their friends might start to think of them. These guys that are in Guyland look for the opinions of their friends and want their approval. If their friends start to think of them differently, they start to think that they need to start acting like a kid again to keep their friends. They often don't want their friends to think of them as starting to become "soft" if they start acting responsible, or even treat a girl how they should be treated.
