Personal Goals

It was June 26th, 1988 the day I graduated from high school. I still remember that day as if it was yesterday; I was so relieved to be done with school. I was an average student my GPA was around 2.7. I had no intentions of going to college; school and myself were like oil and water; the two doesn't mix. After school I did not have much success in finding a well paying job, so I decided to join the Air Force. I felt it was a way for me to be able to get some formal technical training and at the same time I moved out of my parents house. After I served seven years in the military, I was ready to go out in the civilian world and put to use my computer training I attained from the service. I found myself working at several places doing data entry and Administrative work. Now it is almost fifteen years later and I find myself back in school. I have come to the conclusion if I really want to be successful in corporate America I need a college degree. My three personal goals I want to achieve as a UOP student are improve my learning skills, earn a college degree, and become a positive role model for my daughter.
In order for me to be UOP graduate I am going to have to learn how to learn. I will need to find out my strengths and weaknesses involving my study habits. Next I must organize and prioritize my assignments. I have a very intense schedule between work and school. Trying to balance the two will be a challenge, but if I am organized and add some structure to my schedule I should be able to get all my work done. I find the "Peak Learning" textbook is very helpful. I never knew there were different styles of learning. I discovered I am more of a visualization learner. Writing is another weakness for me, I do not like to write; I hope my time at UOP will improve and also change my view of writing papers. As an adult learner I have a new respect for school and I also know the importance of education.
