True love meets the parents

Earlier though, when Jack finds out one of his ushers will not be able to attend, his proclaims that nothing can stop this wedding. Pam is a much harder issue for Jack to deal with, than his beloved pet. He can contain Jinx within his home, and teach him tricks, but Pam is an adult human who is capable of handling herself, and isn't home very often. This seems to make Jack more protective of her, and is something that points to the reason why he is so hard on her boyfriends.
Differently, is the way Greg is shown throughout the movie. Greg is a male nurse, he doesn't necessarily make a fortune every year, he has no extravagant religion influenced hobby, but he does possess a genuineness to him. He has good character and seems to be very real. He might not seem like the perfect guy stereotypically, but Pam truly loves him for what he is, and not what he isn't, or what he could be. She doesn't let the outside influence affect her feelings, and their relationship is solid for that.
Relationship conflicts also test Greg and Pam's own personal connection. One is introduced to Greg in the beginning of the movie as he is rehearsing his proposal to his girlfriend of ten months. Immediately the audience is shown a glimpse of Greg's honest love and dedication to Pam Byrnes. The viewer can feel that Greg honestly loves Pam, and that he truly would love to spend the rest of his life with her. .
Jack Byrnes, Pam's father, is introduced in the same manner. Jack greets Pam with a series of "handshakes- which can be seen as a display of their affection for each other. It is very evident that Jack thinks very highly of his eldest daughter, and that he may not be very open to the idea of letting her marry a man, who in his mind may replace his spot in Pam's life.
Pam appears to be caught in the middle of this triangle. She is obviously in love with Greg which is plainly stated when she tells her mom that she believe Greg "is the one- referring to her beliefs that Greg appears to be the man she is meant to marry.
