Classroom observation

The physical environment of the classroom I observed was a good standard place to learn. The classroom had a quiet atmosphere, so the children could concentrate. The desks were set together in groups, and the teacher's desk was in the back, so that she could see everything that was going on. Posters and children's class work were hung up all around the room. The posters had educational messages that would help the children remember something or to feel comfortable. For example, one of the posters had the steps of the writing process, so the children could always remember the steps. Another poster had a picture of a horse with a cigarette in the horse's mouth that said, " If you think that this looks stupid, then imagine how stupid it would look if it were you." This poster gave the children a message to not smoke, and the poster also made the students feel safe and comfortable to be them self. The students" class work that was hung up all around the room made them feel secure and proud of their work. I feel that it gave them a sense of ownership to the classroom. There were books to read when the children had spare time in the bookshelf, and on top of the bookshelf there were tissues that each child could use if they needed. On the teacher's desk she had pictures of students from previous years, and she also had colored drawings that were from her students hanging up behind her desk. This told the class that the teacher really cared about her students. The overall atmosphere of the classroom made everyone feel relaxed, secure, and motivated to learn.
The teacher was always positive and ready to get started on a new topic. She had a warm and friendly tone to her voice. She gave praise to the children when they had answered a tough question or thought of one. The teacher was ready to answer any and many questions. Because of all these things that the teacher did, the teacher had created a bond with the children allowing the teacher and children to cooperate and work well with each other.
