There are still some places where they are not welcomed just because of the color of their skin. This is reality. It has changed in the sense that now class is more important in determining the future of the black people. Educated blacks are now influential and are gaining more power. It will take time before they are accepted for the people they are. There is a downside to it though; there is still the issue of the black underclass. They are the ones who stand behind the rest of the society.
The causes of racial transformation in the U.S. are primarily due to the economic shift. There is more of an interest in the economic aspect rather than in race. More and more people want to get jobs and earn a higher wage. There are two economic class theories that show how low class conflict actually shape and determine racial relations. .
They are the orthodox Marxist theory of capitalist exploitation and the split labor market theory of the working class. Marxist theory states that the ultimate goal of the capitalist is to maximize profits. Therefore, efforts will be made to suppress workers. On the other hand, the split labor market theory states that all workers could compete freely in an open market. There are three distinct classes in the split labor market. They are business or employers, higher paid labor and cheaper labor. Of course, there are conflicts between all of them because they all have different interests. The whole idea of the three distinct classes is that they all want a different outcome. Employers want to continue cheap labor while the lower paid class wants to improve how they live. It is a win/lose situation, in which only one of the groups gets what they want. .
It is necessary to examine race and class together because they are both important factors in identifying a person. People have both race and stand in an economic class. If only one is looked upon then the other is being discriminated against.
