Job Design & Enrichment

These four major components of job enrichment help outline how the actual process works. .
Job design consists of four sections all meant to make the process of job design easier. First is the organization's purpose for creating the job. A company must address why the job was created. This includes a run down of responsibilities for the employee to carry out. A company must be able to prove the position was in need of creation. The second section is concerned with more of the engineering side of things. This section deals with how efficient the processes are for the employee to accomplish job tasks and responsibilities. Processes can continuously be made more efficient so they are done better and in less time. The third section deals with the physical concerns associated with the job. This includes providing workers with manageable tasks that can be accomplished by their employees. This section takes into consideration a worker's limitations, both mentally and physically. This in turn allows for workers to be given the right amount of work at the right time. The last section is a very important one. Behavioral concerns integrate the needs of employees concerning behavior and how they perform their respective jobs. .
Throughout high school I worked at a local pizzeria in my hometown and was able to learn many things about the business world. Job design just happened to be one of them. It became evident very quickly that doing the same thing repeatedly could become very arduous and displeasing. When I began work I was given the same task to do each day when I came into work. This was mostly due to the fact that I was new to the job, and hadn't learned to do much else. It became very boring to come into work everyday and simply fold boxes. I soon became tired of doing this, and wished there were other things for me to do. My manager quickly noticed how tiresome I was becoming of folding boxes and suggested that she teach me some other skills so that I wasn't stuck doing the same task each and everyday that I worked.
