Defining Culture

A church group is considered to be a culture based on its faith and routine. A country can be a culture based on faith, political ideology, and/or language. We can all be considered members of the same culture based on the fact that we all live on planet earth and breathe oxygen. .
I personally am a member of many cultures. Just to name a few, I am a Costa Rican citizen as well as a United States citizen, the president and member of a fraternity, a student enrolled in the College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, an employee at the Pump & Motor Works, Inc., and a Christian. I consider all of these groups to be cultures. Many people would be picky and say that these groups are "sub-cultures". However, rephrasing my previous statement and acknowledging that this is strictly an opinion based essay, the size of the group is irrelevant. My life revolves around my culture. All of my morals, beliefs, and habits are based on ideas I have gathered from other people in my cultures. Life without culture is impossible due to the fact that culture is always present from the latest "fad" to the oldest tradition.
Objectively speaking, I do not believe that one culture is better than another. I believe that a person chooses a lifestyle based on custom or preference. Cultural preference is completely subjective. Allow me to illustrate. First off, any person who claims to not be prejudice is a liar. We are all prejudice at one point in our lives. Prejudice (pre-judge) is the act of making assumptions about a group or an individual before becoming familiar with that group or individual. Let us assume that you are walking through a dark alley. You see a tall figure approaching. It is a man who is about six feet five inches, wearing torn up clothes, drinking a Jack Daniels brown bag special, and stinks to high heaven as if he had never seen a bar of soap. Most people would turn and run away for fear of getting mugged or raped.
