Cloning

 

             Human cloning has been a major topic around the world for the past couple of years. Scientists all over the world are in a race to clone the first living, breathing, human being. There are a few laws concerning cloning in Canada, however there must be new laws implemented to assure that cloning is controlled here in this country. People come to Canada to do extensive research on cloning because there are no laws on what kind of research can be done. Cloning techniques can change medical science forever, changing the way people look at healing certain illnesses, but there could be negative affects to this like creating new viruses or biowarfare. Once cloning is perfected, there will be a huge multi million dollar business up for grabs, laws for this is needed to prevent genetic discrimination by anyone from employers to insurance policies. Moral and ethical issues have arisen from cloning, such as "rising" loved ones from the dead. Countries all around the world are debating wither or not to allow or ban human embryo cloning. Nevertheless scientists have been trying to clone humans for many years now and are close to actually doing it.
             In 1997 scientist were able to clone a sheep named Dolly, this was not the beginning of cloning. In fact scientists have tried to clone people and animals for at least the last two decades. Dolly was just the catalyst to hasten the research and gain public, and government funding. Since there aren't many laws in Canada about cloning, scientists can basically do whatever they want to do to obtain their research. .
             This is one of the few industrialized countries, perhaps the only major one, that has no laws or regulations to cover the new genetic and reproductive technologies that science has made possible. Any use of the new techniques is technically permitted in Canada, because nothing has been legally prohibited. .
             Therefore if a person wants to clone a human, create a human-animal hybrid or even an assembly line for designer babies Canada can be the place to do it.
