He did many successful things while in office such as pulling us out of Korea, integration, and the space race. During this time, the U.S. and Russia were desperately trying to reach space first. We were successful in sending the first man to space but Russia launched the first satellite, meaning we were being spied on. This incident brought about McCarthyism. McCarthyism is just a nice way to say witch-hunt. Pretty much, if you were a true American, you would turn your neighbor in immediately if you suspected any sort of communist involvement. This ran on for quite some time and led to some pretty risky situations. You were never the same after being convicted of spying against the U.S. .
Perhaps the greatest, most well like president was John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He was one of the greatest men of all time. He accomplished so many things as president in such a short amount of time. It started small with civil rights and moved up to the Cuban Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs. During these events, Kennedy kept America calm and stable while still being on alert. He did his very best to make sure nothing happened to this great country. The Cold War really got going this term with Russia supplying Cuba with a barrage of nuclear arms. Only miles outside of Florida, nearly every city on the Eastern seaboard was at risk. Unfortunately, during a trip to Dallas, this nice man was shot and killed in his automobile. America fell to tears the day Johnnie died.
It seemed as though this had been planned, for moments after he died, Kennedy was replaced with Lyndon B. Johnson. Who turned out to be a president whom we didn't get to like. Johnson started off bad by sending troops to Vietnam. Another place where we shouldn't have stuck our nosy heads. This led to yet another fierce battle between the U.S. and Russia. One supplying the North, the other the South. Johnson did have his good points though.
