To Breathe, or Not to Breathe

The product responsible for the leading cause of death, killing more people than AIDS, murder, suicide, fires, alcohol and illegal drugs combined, can be purchased at any local convenient store. This product is advertised in mass amounts and targeted at younger generations, often seen on billboards near schools and playgrounds(wholetruth.com). Imagine people buying tiny sticks filled with cancer, and puffing them down, to slowly kill their bodies. Now imagine not buying this product, choosing not to slowly kill yourself, but still being at the same fatal risk as the smoker. The product is commonly know as a cigarette, and thought you may choose not to smoke one you are still at risk of its deadly potions. .
These potions, 4,000 in all are mixed in with the tobacco, many being hazardous chemicals, but none being required by law to be labeled(wholetruth.com). Tar is considered the deadliest of all the chemicals with carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, carboxyhemoglobin, and nicotine following right behind(cis.nci.nih.gov). When a cigarette is lit and a puff is drawn in, "the temperature reaches to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit acting as a tiny blast furnace that turns into a chemical plant, which uses the hundreds of available materials to produce many more(www.biology.arizona.edu)." When theses chemicals are released into the air, they affect everyone, unless you just happen to carry an oxygen tank wherever you go! .
The chemicals in the cigarette are introduced into our body through inhaling the smoke. This smoke dose not only effect the smoker but also everyone else who happens to be breathing in the same area. The smoke the non-smoker inhales is termed Environmental Tobacco Smoke and research has found that it is as equal or maybe even worse than the smoke the smoker inhales. Environmental Tobacco Smoke, also called second hand smoke, is the combination of two forms of smoke caused by the burning of tobacco(cis.
