The Matrix



             When Neo and Trinity first meet, the music playing in the nightclub can be classified as "techno." This relates back to technology because computers are needed to generate this type of sound in the background. Also the name of the type of music it is classified as, "techno," relates back to the theme of technology. This shows the audience how even music in our lives is affected by the use and advancements made in technology.
             Also, a group called "rage against machine" makes the song that the audience hears in the last scene, after Neo steps out of the phone booth. The name of this group links back to technology, the human revolution, humans are angry at the artificial intelligent machines that they themselves have created. It sends out a message that the technological advancements made by humans will one day not be for our own benefit but to our own disadvantage.
             When Neo is starting to get covered in a silvery liquid, the audience hears a computer generated "warped" sound as the camera tracks down Neo's throat. This sound, generated by a computer shows that there is a connection between Neo and technology, since it is in his throat and so, the theme of technology is brought out.
             Technology, being such a prevalent theme in this film, examines the values of the contemporary Western world to a great extent. The Western world, as people know it today, relies very heavily on technology and the advancements made in it. The Western world would not be able to function properly and efficiently if we didn't have electricity. Nobody would be able to work or even live comfortably. The Western world would not be able to function properly and efficiently without computers. Once again, nobody will be able to work or even live comfortably. Computers, or any kind of technology, is found everywhere in the Western world. The Western world values technology as something of great importance and this is examined to a great extent in the film by the use of film techniques such as camera angles, computer generated graphics, music and sound effects.
