These gun sales may not be the direct way to fix our town, but they can help it grow. There is a town called Kennesaw, Georgia. It is a small suburb north of Atlanta. A few years ago this town introduced an ordinance that required the head of the household to have a firearm and ammunition in the house. One of the ideas behind this was to provide for civil defense. However, the main idea was to make the criminals in Kennesaw and in the surrounding cities aware that the residences of this town were prepared to defend themselves. Almost immediately the crime rate in this small town, much like ours, plummeted. The number of burglaries in Kennesaw dropped by 560 percent by the year 1999. The population also grew from 6000 to almost 20,000 residents (Meyer). The increase in the number of residence would help any town, especially one in need of a better economy. With these new people came new jobs and taxes to provide for the town. I believe that Maple plains could be the next Kennesaw, Georgia. .

If a plan like this were to work in Maple Plains, then there would be no need for the gun show. There would be several other ways to raise the funds needed to provide all the programs that the gun sales would support. At the same time we would be helping .
everybody and not just focusing on the youth. It could also help other problems that the community could have, like unemployment. If we were to adopt a process like Kennesaw, then we could better Maple Plains as a whole.
Goals like this take time to fully carry out. For now, we need to focus on the issue at hand. The gun show our town hosts takes all precautions and follows all the rules that encompass the selling of firearms. There is no difference from purchasing a gun through a gun store than there is when purchasing a gun at our show. Background checks are done and safety courses are offered with every gun that is sold. If a criminal wanted a gun, he or she would have no better chance obtaining one here then they would from a dealer.
