September 11th

I can hear the sirens blast from blocks away. Slowly, they begin to get closer and louder. Soon, the piercing noise has dug right through me. I force myself to look out the window once more, to witness the horror and terror happening in front of my very own eyes. What an impact these tragic events will have in our society tomorrow. I don't have to force myself to look away from the chaotic scene. .
As soon as the attacks were underway, America had changed. Nothing to this day has ever been the same. It's the minuscule everyday changes that you observe the most. People must now hear about a local terror warning on the daily news. We must now be worried to board a plane, train, or step on a fabulous cruise ship. We must watch our back at every moment, never knowing when or where tragedy shall choose its next victim. Suddenly we have to open our mailboxes with caution, never knowing what to expect. Is this the way America should be?.
Not only every day events have changed. If you haven't noticed, the security across our nation has been drastically tightened. The long lines at airports have been increased to the point of hour's worth of waiting. Now we must leave extra early to be certain that we will not miss the flight we are scheduled for. Of course, this security is a great safety assurance, but when is it enough?.
It's also not hard to see the increased racism that has come about following the catastrophes of September 11th. Many will fight this statement, and say it is untrue, but I must ask - if you saw a man of obvious Middle Eastern descent boarding a plane you were to be traveling on, would you not be nervous to step on that plane? Do you honestly not feel a sensation of hatred when a Middle Eastern man crosses your path? Now, these feelings are what many would call "natural". The society of America has turned racist, whether we want to believe it or not. .
In all, the events of September 11th were not just a tragedy, but life-changing as well.
