For many years now its been an ongoing battle between the school board and children about enforced uniforms and so far a lot of progress hasnt been made. The school board maintains control because it has more authority than the students but the students have had a lot of petitions to try and change that, which have only worked to change a few small rules. School uniforms actually do a lot of good for the students that they don't even notice. For one, a lot of the bullying that happens in schools come from the clothes that the kids wear, uniforms can prevent that. Another thing is that uniforms helps students concentrate on their school work rather than the clothes that they're wearing. And last but not least uniforms are cost effective.
School uniforms have been around just as long schools have been and they play a bigger role in the children's lives than you may think. Did you know 55% of bullying happens because of the clothes that students wear? Its not the students fault if they cant afford to buy new expensive, bran name clothes every week. Also bullies usually pick on outsiders, but if students are wearing uniforms none of this can happen. Uniforms have been shown to lower almost half of all bullying in schools that have uniforms. When all the students are wearing the same type of clothing, same brand, same style, the bully can't pick on the type of clothes the student is wearing. Therefore, I think that uniforms should be used to prevent some, if not all bullying.
Another big factor is that uniforms help the students concentrate on their school work more. In the mornings and the day before students usually search for the perfect outfit to wear, and this can even take hours for some students. Instead of using this time to study or do homework they're searching for the clothes to impress their classmates with. Also at school, instead of listening to their teacher teaching they probably going to be looking around at what people are wearing and if its in the latest trend or not.
