There are millions who become sex trafficking victims in different ages, different races and different gender. There is no accurate estimate on how many sex trafficking victims there are,but it is the third largest criminal enterprise in the world butthere is an estimate of $700,000 to $2,000,000 women and children are trafficked around the world and $2000 to $600 just daily.(Source 4 866) There is also a current estimate stating that $293,000 more people are currently at risk of becoming sex trafficked victims(Source 2 5)4. Out of the 1,200 human trafficking allegations that were reported to the U.S Departmentof Justice 83 percent were sex trafficking cases (Source8 par.5)3. Traffickers may or may not care about what age or gender you are when they pursue you. The mostly targeted victims are children and teens (Source1 181)2. Majority of the female victims are between the ages of eleven and fourteen years of age. Some victims are as young as five years old (Source 1 182)9. Because of the false belief that the risk of contracting HIV is less in children, children have become a high demand in trafficking(Source 8 par.8)8. The John Jay study has shown in the population of sex trafficking there is 42% female, 53.5% male and 4.5% transgender victims within the youth(Source 2 3)9..
There are also many different ways one may fall victim into being sex trafficked. Technology plays a major role in the involvement of sex trafficking. Sex traffickers actually advertise and sell children through the internet (Source 1 183)11. Shared Hope International's research has shown that ten cities in the United States have used the internet for selling and buying children off the internet for sexual purposes(Source 1 183)12.
