The whole purpose of having an official language is so that everyone can communicate and function in society. Having two official languages will completely ruin this system and the country. The country would be split up into two almost separate countries. There would be the English speaking part of the country, and then there would be the Spanish speaking part. Neither of these parts would be able to interact with each other unless everyone knew both languages, and that goes against logic, as everyone would need to learn a new language instead of just the immigrants. .
In addition, the whole idea of political office would be messed up. People running for office would have to know both languages, or one group would not be able to understand them. The same is true for public servants. An English speaking police officer would have trouble giving a speeding ticket to a Spanish speaking driver. This would result in having separate political officials and public servants for each language, and eventually lead to the United States becoming two separate countries. If people do not know English, they cannot fit into America's society. However, the problem of the illegal immigrants not speaking English is not the only problem with illegal immigration.
The second problem that America has with illegal immigration is that the illegal immigrants take jobs away from legal American citizens. The big thing in politics right now is to create jobs. If political officials want to create jobs, all they need to do is stop illegal immigration. In Saint Louis, most of the landscaping businesses are run by Mexicans. These Mexicans may or may not be legal, but they will not think twice about hiring illegals, taking up jobs that could be filled by legal citizens. Illegals also work for less, so employers like to hire them more than legal citizens. If America could solve its problem of illegal immigration, the job problem would also be decreased.
