In Search of Silence

Have you ever had those annoying neighbors who blast their music, speak really loud, or even walk with heavy feet throughout the dorm halls? There is importance to both being silent and not being silent and it effects us in many different ways, but how do we achieve the best of both worlds. Being able to be as loud as you want and not bother others can be achieved by sound deadening material. .
Most of us have moments when we long for silence when we wish that TVs would stop, iPods would die, and those loud cell phones could stop blaring. Even if you're surrounded by noise, take a few minutes to pause and reflect on the power of silence, to restore, to heal and to reveal the unexpected. Maybe because I can talk up a storm at times, I love, maybe even crave the essence of silence. I feel safe in it, that safety because it's just me and my thoughts. That's probably why if you ask a spiritual teacher for advice on how to practice wise speech and cognitive thought, they're likely to answer with one word, "silence"(Chance).
