Train Experience

As the class stepped onto the Orange line train, we began our journey towards Midway Airport. The train slowly and noisily pulled away from the Adam/Wabash platform. It was pass the morning rush hour, so there were not a lot of passengers on the train. A quick glance around the train, I discovered several different characters. There was a young teenager girl with pink hair; an elderly man wearing a worn Chicago Bulls jacket and a well dressed middle-age man hauling a rather large suitcase. The cultural background of the passengers varied from Caucasian, European to Hispanic. One thing was common amongst the passengers v/s the weary, depressed expression on their faces. Where were they heading to? Perhaps they were heading to workplace that they did not desired to be at. Perhaps they were heading to home after a long and uneventful graveyard shift. Whatever their destination or purpose were, they all seemed unsatisfied and discontented of their current situation. The train was fate, carrying them slowly to their final destination. Along the way, tall office buildings slowly disappeared as small houses and grocery stores took their place. It was a beautiful day outside. The sky was clear and smog free, enabling the passengers to see miles and miles towards each direction. Not many people bothered to look out. Some did, but they saw without truly seeing. Most seemed preoccupied by their own problems. .
I started to wonder to myself if the passengers are just blindly moving from one place to another. In a way, the train was like fate. As people travel down the tracks, occasionally drifting to a different train, they were shown charming or even bizarre scenery. However, most ordinary people simply ride along never questioning what they see or hear. Whether it be a young teenager with pink hair or a man who has trouble standing still, most were either too tired to care or too angry to appreciate the view.
