Children and Reading

In this modern age, children rarely choose to read. If they read it is a youth magazine. Moreover, the easiest way for them is to watch a movie based on the story of a book. Parents should explain why a book is better than a movie or a magazine. In turn, teachers should give a list of books for the holidays for pupils. Teachers should instill intrinsic motivation for children, who study in school. Also, children want to be like parents. However, in present time people are busy and less likely to find time to read. It is much easier to relax, picking up the TV remote or open the laptop and immersed in a virtual reality computer games. Although, parents should create a pleasant atmosphere providing reading materials, encouragement and example will endorse children the love for reading. In present time, parents and teachers have a necessity to promote reading.
Reading is essential to promote language development. Reading the books of a good children's author early helps the children to develop speech, vocabulary and construct sentences correctly. Language of these children becomes competent and coherent much earlier than other children. According to James Randerson, "Studies show that children who are read too from an earlier age have better language development and tend to have better language scores later in life." This shows that if parents the development of good language skills. .
Also, reading promotes increased vocabulary. In the article "What Reading Does for the Mind, "Books have 50 per cent more rare words in them than does adult prime-time television and the conversation of college graduates"" (Anne E. Cunningham and Keith E. Stanovich 140). This shows that in books, much more clever words appear that the children will read than what they will see on TV or hear in conversation on the street. Children read the books of different authors and faced with words hat are not normally used in everyday speech.
