One World, Many Colors - Discrimination

"Racism has been for everyone like a horrible, tragic car crash, and we've all been heavily sedated from it. If we don't come into consciousness of this tragedy, there's going to be a violent awakening we don't want. The question is can we wake up?" This quote as directed by the actress Anna Deavere Smith has a lot of meaning in it. What she is trying to explain and direct to the audience is that if this society doesn't wake up sooner or later racism will never end in fact it will keep increasing over the years, and if they eventually do wake up it's going to cause a lot of problems and the violence rate will get out of control. This society is going out of control, it is known that discrimination is illegal in all 50 states, but it is still in practice. People are daily discriminated not only at their workplace, but everywhere because of their religion, race, and skin color up to the point where they are often killed, beaten up, and assaulted. .
Religion has been many of the causes why racism hasn't abolished and it's because people are in denial of accepting other's beliefs. For example, atheism and Christianity are two completely different religions. While Christian people believe in Jesus Christ, atheists believe that all gods are man-made constructs. These two religions have been going off on debates about whose beliefs are right which has caused a lot of the controversy that is seen in today's society. In order for racism to end people need to stop criticizing and discriminating other people by their looks, because it is often seen how women who wear headscarves are stereotyped, and thought off as a Muslim. Although, many of the women of the Muslim society wear headscarves because of their religion and beliefs, but it doesn't right away mean that just because a woman is wearing a headscarf that they come from the same religion. In fact, many religions such as, Christianity and Judaism call their believers to cover their head and hair by wearing scarfs or a head covering.
