Living in an American-Pakistani Home

In the Muslim religion pork is FORBIDDEN. I had to bring my own lunch to school every single day and it was the same meal every single day (if you were wondering it was PBJ, Juice and a fruit). The rules that Desi parents have compared to American parents are VERY different lets compare. In a Desi family you cannot Date girls (that rule was broken by me), you cannot go to a American friends house, you cannot text or talk on the phone with any one else with out your parents consent, you cant eat non-Halal foods, girls cant wear shorts. On an American family the rules are mostly completely the opposite. Living in the United States and being Desi might not be that easy and if you broke any of these rules you would get THE talk from your parents or a whooping. Even after your 18 you have to follow your parents rules.
The life I had outside of my house with my friends was very awkward. Sometimes my American friends would be talking about something and I would have been confused and dazed on what they're talking about sometimes I did not even understand the metaphors that they used. For example I was about 8 years old in school and one of my friends brings up the topic of his Uncle grabbing a squirrel with his bear hands. I was very fond I thought it would have been cool to have bear hands and I would also think how he got them. Then I asked a friend and he looked at me in the strangest way and he thought I was retarded or something like that. I was never good at learning new vocabulary words or spelling out words because at home my parents were talking a different language and at that time they were teaching me how to write in another language as well. I never fit in school nor did anyone really liked me because of my weirdness. In a Desi culture a boy cannot shave his mustache his first time by himself and most Desi parents only allow you to cut it at the age of 21. Well at sixteen I was frustrated with it because it looked ugly on me I cut it off my dad was very disappointed in me but at the other hand I looked alt better.
