The Psychology of Fashion


This was a major accomplishment in the history of fashion because this was finally a time where someone could begin to expand their wardrobes and find expressiveness in clothing. However, sumptuary laws were created around this time to prevent other class of people interfering with one another. These regulations controlled what each social class could wear. Punishment for breaking a sumptuary law would result in fines, jail time, and death.
             Clothing between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries began to drastically change. Men and women began to finally express the qualities and personalities through their clothing. Throughout the years, women would have dresses professionally made that would express their styles. Men would begin wearing clothes that would express their nobility and stature in masculinity. The history of fashion would be influenced in trade, politics. religion, and technology. These distinctive changes in fashion have been attributed to the way people decide to dress and how they feel about themselves whenever they dress for the day. Within the last century, fashion has changed incredibly than in the past. Clothing trends have reflected the changing roles and interests of men and women. After the turn of the century, time was changing, For instance, War World I changed fashion trends. Much of the fashion was trending to be more relaxed. Women and men didn't have time to spend hours to get ready in large gowns and pleated suits and bowler hats. Instead, they would resolve to casual suits for the men and skirts and fitted blouses for the women. This example reflects how people are too stressed from the war, so the mind relaxes and tells the wearer to take less stress away from hours of maintaining complex appearances and focus on much greater worries. Theses values learned throughout the fashion industry have greatly been influenced by the tinkering and psychological minds of the designer (Source 5).
