Globalization is a controversial issue. There are both good and bad views of globalization. However, regardless of the two-sided arguments, globalization has a major effect on all businesses. When reviewing the overall impact, Globalization's good points outweigh the bad.
Small business and communities are not at a disadvantage when it comes to globalization. Business greatest assets are their concepts, competence, and connections (Moss). A business or cities success depends on how well they can become part of the global network. In order to do so, they must meet global standards, have external resources, expand their skills, and broaden horizons. The biggest mistake a company can make is to stay isolated. This would put them at a serious disadvantage. Many communities feel that globalization tears their community down. However, the best way for a community to stay in control is to compete globally. Two towns did just that. Spartanburg and Greenville are the site of the highest diversified foreign investment per capita in the United States. These two cities possess competence, which has added to their success in the global market. Along with their success, they have seen the rewards and benefits of globalization. "The presence of foreign companies has unleashed and renewed enterpreneurship and innovation, stimulated learning, heightened awareness of world standards, and connected local companies to global networks" (Moss). Not only does globalization bring capital and jobs to communities, it helps make the community more well rounded and a better community overall.
Globalization has a major impact on businesses and communities. Although, some may always have a negative opinion of globalization, Others are continuing to grow and learn in order to compete in the global market. Globalization will continue to effect businesses and communities. However, it is up to them weather they want to sink or swim.
