Two Weeks Notice

Losing a job is a very stressful situation. Compounded by given two weeks notice to end my employment, I felt thrust onto an emotional roller coaster ride. Therefore, the recent organizational problem discussed in this paper will be the two week notice to end my employment, how it affected my emotions, what type of thinking applied to the decision process, what forces of influence contributed to the outcome, and finally how my employer and I accepted each other's differences.
I work at the Law Office of Donald T, Esquire (Donald). Donald hired me in July 2003. He and I agreed I would work for his company until the end of December 2003. Donald often indicated he hoped I would stay with his law firm longer than 6 months, but he understood that it was for financial reasons and his inability to pay market rate for my skills. In light of that, I committed to 6 months and re-arranged my personal responsibilities to accommodate working at his office.
In September 2003, Donald got a call from a paralegal that previously worked in his office. She had recently lost her job and called looking for employment. Donald and I both sympathetic to her situation, Donald only made mention that he was not sure how to help her. A few days later, Donald became excited at the possibility of Cathy returning to work in his office because she came with a lot of knowledge and experience of the law and it's application. However, he indicated to me at that time it would not be a problem with my employment or our agreement.
Approximately two weeks later, Donald called me into his office and calmly said he had hired Cathy but he could not afford to pay both of us. However, he could afford to pay me only for the next two weeks. Upset by his decision, but at the time of the meeting, I chose not to respond. That evening, I experienced emotions such as anger, fear, and disappointment. I was angry because I felt betrayed; disappointed because I felt Donald did not have enough confidence in my abilities; or me and fear wondering how I would financially cope.
